Why a National Volunteer Centre in Sports?
It is through sport that we foster unity, solidarity, and development, values that form the foundation of the Volunteer Centre. We recognised that the lack of structure and support for volunteers, the low visibility of volunteering opportunities, and the lack of recognition for their contributions are slowing down the growth of sporting events in Croatia. The answer to these challenges is a Centre that connects, educates, and motivates.
The goal is to connect volunteers with the needs of sports federations through education, organisation, and motivation, all in order to jointly strengthen sporting events in Croatia and contribute to greater social cohesion. Our vision over the next five years is to become the key contact point for sports volunteering both at the national and European level.
Who do we support, and how?
The Volunteer Centre provides support to:
- Volunteers: through education, engagement, skills development, and connecting with sports organisations
- Sports federations and event organisers: by building a volunteer base, developing and delivering quality training for volunteers and coordinators, and offering logistical and organisational support
- And through cooperation with the network of volunteer centres in the Republic of Croatia via specialised educational content that can be adapted by centres, exchange of best practices, joint organisation of programs and project applications, and the development of educational materials for sport and volunteering.
We have the experience. We have the passion!
Since 2014, we have implemented over 60 sports volunteering programs, built a database of more than 3,000 volunteers, adopted a rulebook on working with volunteers, trained coordinators, and actively participated in EU projects as both project leaders and partners.
In addition, for three consecutive years, we have organised the UniSport ViLA Volunteer and Leadership Academy, a program for both theoretical and practical volunteer training, with records officially entered in the work booklet.
