The fourth UniSport ViLA lecture brings us a topic that shapes how we experience sport every day – sports media!
How do athletes become brands? What is the power of social media in sports? What do media relations look like behind the scenes of major competitions? We’ll discover the answers to these and many other questions through engaging lectures and conversations with professionals from the world of sports journalism and communications.
Our speakers:
Ines Jakopanec (Croatian Water Polo Federation, European Aquatics)
From hobby to career – the journey of one of the most prominent sports media experts in the region. Ines began her career as a volunteer managing social media for sports clubs and projects. Today, she leads media strategies and social platforms for the Croatian Water Polo Federation and the water polo division of European Aquatics. She has been involved in organizing media operations at major events such as the 2022 European Water Polo Championship in Split, as well as the World Championships and the Olympic Games. Ines will share her experience in running digital campaigns, creating content, and working at major sporting events, showing how sports and media go hand in hand.

Leonarda Pavić
A former Croatian national water polo player who traded the sports field for the commentary booth – and made history doing so. Three years ago, she became the first woman in Croatia to commentate on football matches on television, doing so on the prestigious ArenaSport channel, where she now actively works as a commentator, editor, and host of UEFA-related sports programs. Sport is in her blood – literally. She grew up with a father who was a professional footballer, played water polo, trained in handball, and even tried her hand at other sports. In addition to her work as a commentator and presenter, Leonarda tirelessly works behind the scenes to ensure that sport – especially women’s sport – receives the recognition it deserves, both on the field and in the media.

At the end of the lecture, participants will split into their previously formed teams to analyze and discuss the practical tasks they’ve completed – a perfect opportunity to learn through experience and exchange ideas!
Get ready for another dynamic ViLA experience – see you soon!
